Poultry BC Technician

The Poultry Breeding Center (BC) Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Poultry Breeding Center by ensuring the health, welfare, and productivity of breeder flocks. 1. Poultry Breeding Operations

  • Perform daily husbandry activities for breeder flocks, including feeding, watering, and routine inspections.
  • Monitor bird health, behavior, and productivity, reporting abnormalities to the supervisor or veterinarian.
  • Support breeding programs by managing mating groups, breeder selection, and flock rotation as directed.
  • Maintain appropriate stocking densities and housing conditions.

2. Egg Collection & Hatchery Support

  • Collect, inspect, grade, and store hatching eggs according to established procedures.
  • Ensure eggs are handled carefully to maintain hatchability and quality.
  • Assist with egg transfer, incubation, candling, hatching, and chick handling activities.
  • Record egg production, fertility, hatchability, and chick performance data.

3. Animal Health & Biosecurity

  • Monitor birds for signs of disease, injury, or stress.
  • Assist with vaccination programs, medication administration, and health monitoring under veterinary guidance.
  • Implement strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Ensure sanitation and disinfection procedures are followed for poultry houses, equipment, and vehicles.

4. Facility & Equipment Maintenance

  • Clean and maintain poultry houses, nesting areas, feeders, drinkers, incubators, and hatchery equipment.
  • Inspect equipment regularly and report maintenance requirements.
  • Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, lighting, and ventilation.
  • Ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and operational.

5. Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of:
  • Feed and water consumption
  • Egg production and hatchability
  • Bird mortality and health treatments
  • Vaccinations and medications
  • Environmental conditions
  • Prepare daily and weekly operational reports for supervisors.

6. Inventory & Supply Management

  • Monitor stock levels of feed, vaccines, medications, bedding materials, and poultry supplies.
  • Assist with inventory counts and stock replenishment requests.
  • Ensure proper storage of feed and veterinary supplies.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Certificate in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Technology, or a related field.
  • High School Diploma with relevant poultry experience may also be considered.
  • 2–4 years of experience in poultry breeding, hatchery operations, poultry farming, or animal husbandry.
  • Experience in breeder flock management and hatchery operations is preferred.
