Painting Engineer / QAQC Engineer - Painting & Coating
CountryUnited Arab Emirates
Job typePermanent
LocationDubai
SpecialismQuality Control / Inspection / HSE
The Painting/Coating QAQC Engineer ensures the integrity and longevity of protective coating systems applied to critical infrastructure, including pipelines, storage tanks, and offshore structures. The professional oversees surface preparation, coating application, and curing processes while enforcing strict compliance with international standards (NACE, SSPC, ISO 12944). The role involves conducting inspections at all project phases—from abrasive blast profile checks to final dry film thickness measurements—using advanced tools like DFT gauges, adhesion testers, and holiday detectors. Whether approving coating procedures or investigating premature coating failures, the engineer's expertise prevents corrosion-related asset degradation in aggressive service environments.
The Painting/Coating QAQC Engineer serves as the technical authority for material selection, specifying coating systems tailored to operational conditions (CUI prevention, immersion service, or high-temperature resistance). The position requires meticulous documentation of inspection reports, non-conformance tracking, and vendor qualification audits to maintain quality assurance protocols. The professional collaborates with corrosion engineers, painting contractors, and project managers to optimize coating lifecycles while meeting safety and environmental regulations. The engineer's specialized knowledge in industrial coatings—from epoxy systems to thermal spray aluminization—directly impacts asset preservation and operational safety in hydrocarbon facilities.
5+ years of experience in industrial painting/coating inspection and QA/QC roles
Certification in NACE Level 2 or higher (or equivalent SSPC certification)
Strong understanding of NACE, SSPC, ISO 12944, and other relevant standards
Proficiency in coating inspection tools (DFT gauges, adhesion testers, holiday detectors)
Experience in failure analysis and corrective action planning for coating defects
Knowledge of coating systems for CUI prevention, immersion service, and high-temperature applications
Strong report writing, documentation, and vendor auditing skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Corrosion Engineering preferred
