The Occupational Therapist (OT) enables patients to regain independence and improve functional abilities following injury, illness, or disability. They assess physical, cognitive, and psychosocial limitations to develop tailored rehabilitation plans using therapeutic activities, adaptive techniques, and assistive devices. The role includes modifying home and work environments, implementing graded exercise programs, and restoring essential daily living skills—from self-care to vocational activities.
In addition to direct patient care, the OT collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, documents progress, educates caregivers, and advocates for accessibility accommodations. Specialized expertise in areas such as neurological rehabilitation, pediatric development, or geriatric care is essential, with interventions grounded in evidence-based practices. This role demands strong problem-solving skills, empathy, and a focus on meaningful occupation as a tool for maximizing patient autonomy and community reintegration.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- Valid OT license or registration in applicable jurisdiction
- Solid experience in rehabilitation settings (hospital, clinic, community)
- Knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications
- Strong assessment, planning, and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity in patient care
