SpecialismProject Management / Operations / Strategy
The NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) Technician performs critical inspections of pipelines, pressure vessels, and structural components to identify flaws or defects without damaging the equipment. The professional utilizes advanced testing methods including ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and liquid penetrant testing (PT) to assess asset integrity in refineries, offshore platforms, and drilling sites. The role involves interpreting test results, documenting findings according to ASME and API standards, and recommending corrective actions to prevent catastrophic failures. Whether inspecting weld joints for cracks or assessing corrosion under insulation, the technician's work ensures operational safety and regulatory compliance in high-risk hydrocarbon environments.
The NDT Technician collaborates closely with integrity engineers and maintenance teams to schedule inspections during turnarounds or routine shutdowns. The position requires meticulous attention to detail when calibrating equipment, evaluating indicator patterns, and differentiating between acceptable anomalies and critical defects. With certifications in multiple NDT methods (typically ASNT Level II or III), the professional must adapt techniques for challenging field conditions—from confined space entries to elevated work platforms. The technician's expertise in flaw detection and material evaluation plays a vital role in preventing unplanned downtime, extending asset lifecycles, and maintaining the mechanical integrity of critical oil and gas infrastructure.
3-5 years of NDT inspection experience in oil and gas or heavy industrial environments
ASNT Level II or III certification in UT, RT, MT, and PT methods (multiple methods preferred)
Strong understanding of ASME, API, and other relevant inspection codes and standards
Skilled in interpreting test results and preparing detailed inspection reports
Ability to work in hazardous and challenging field conditions, including confined spaces and elevated platforms
Proficiency in calibrating and operating NDT equipment under varying site conditions
Excellent attention to detail and ability to distinguish between acceptable and critical defects
Strong communication skills for collaborating with engineers, maintenance teams, and contractors
