Mechanical Draftsman
CountryUnited Arab Emirates
Job typePermanent
LocationDubai
SpecialismProject Management / Operations / Strategy
The Mechanical Draftsman converts engineering designs into accurate technical drawings and diagrams that serve as blueprints for fabrication and assembly. Working with CAD platforms like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and MicroStation, the professional creates comprehensive 2D plans and 3D models of mechanical systems, components, and equipment—specifying precise measurements, materials, and manufacturing tolerances. The role requires close coordination with engineers to develop functional designs while considering production feasibility, maintenance access, and safety factors according to ASME, ANSI, or other relevant standards. Whether detailing structural supports for industrial facilities or intricate mechanisms for specialized machinery, the Mechanical Draftsman's deliverables ensure accurate translation from engineering concepts to tangible products.
The Mechanical Draftsman maintains rigorous documentation control, updating drawings to reflect design revisions or field modifications throughout the project lifecycle. The position demands expert interpretation of engineering sketches and specifications to produce orthographic projections, sectional views, and detailed part drawings with proper GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) notation. With specialized knowledge in areas like piping systems, machine elements, or mechanical assemblies, the professional also generates bills of materials (BOM) and installation guides to support workshop and construction teams. The Mechanical Draftsman's mastery of both technical drawing conventions and practical manufacturing considerations plays a vital role in minimizing errors, optimizing production processes, and ensuring the seamless execution of engineering projects.
